25 Jul Navigating the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale on a Budget
Dan and I are in “saving mode” right now, which means we only go out to eat once or twice a month and keep a close eye on non-necessity spending (read: hey, Katharine, you probably shouldn’t shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale). However, it’s rare that Nordstrom has a sale this epic and since we pitched/donated 75% of our closet during spring cleaning this year, I’m in desperate need of an update.
Here’s how I’ll be navigating the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale on a Budget:
STOCK UP ON BEAUTY ESSENTIALS
As I mentioned in my Summer Skincare Routine post, I tend to invest more in beauty products than other material things, reason being: I put them on my face. Because Nordstrom carries all my day-to-day products, it makes sense to buy them while they are on sale. It’s also a great time to try out a new shade of shadow or sample a new scent. Plus, if you don’t like it, at least you bought it on sale.
INVEST IN BASIC WARDROBE PIECES
Spending your limited budget on a top that will go out of style in a year doesn’t make much sense, which is why I’ll be investing in basics only. To be clear: basics don’t have to mean boring! By definition, they are basic and timeless for a reason. Shopping for pieces I can mix and match and wear multiple ways trumps a statement piece.
STICK TO A BUDGET
I can lust over basic wardrobe pieces all day, but if I can’t afford it, I can’t afford it and that’s ok. There’s no point lamenting over a blazer or pair of shoes if it sends me over budget and there is definitely no need to rack up credit card debt to pay for clothes. If my budget only allows me to buy two or three things, then I only buy two or three things…but I’ll make them count.
Sidenote: I’ve also made it a priority to purchase a couple of dress shirts for Dan while they are on sale. Poor guy thinks his 5 go-to blue button downs will last forever.
